With the recent closure of her Fine Art course at the University of Kent, Aldham has been concerned with the current state of the arts within education and how that has a knock-on effect in terms of the value of culture within the country. With a developing sense of uncertainty, Aldham has been questioning, ‘where is a safe place for artists?’ Educational institutes are seen as a place where young people are free to spread their wings within the safety of their subject course. However, with art courses closing across the country, there are fewer places a creative mind can flourish. This can potentially have a devastating impact on the creative sector in the future, but also on the rich culture built by creative people that our country is known and respected for. Working towards building a ‘safe place’ for artists, Aldham’s work takes form as installations that embody creativity.
